According to more than two-thirds of Hungarians, a woman does not have to give up her career because of motherhood, according to the KINCS survey.

The vast majority of Hungarians, 83 percent, agree that motherhood is the most beautiful profession for women. Nine out of ten of those with children, but also seven out of ten of those without children, identify with this statement. This is mostly the opinion of people living in rural areas and members of the older age group, according to the Mária Kopp Institute for Population and Families (KINCS), based on the latest representative survey conducted on the occasion of Mother's Day.

According to their statement sent to MTI on Sunday, the research also revealed that

80 percent of people believe that motherhood and a career can be reconciled, although this is a difficult task.

Singles and those with one child mostly agreed with this statement.

For a woman, a child is important for a full life

The KINCS survey also revealed that 74 percent of people think that children are important for a woman to live a full life, and 67 percent also agree that

for women, motherhood means fulfillment.

Among those who agreed with these two statements, there was a higher proportion of those with children, especially those with large families, members of the older generations and those living in villages, they wrote.

68 percent of those surveyed believe that a woman does not have to give up her career and life goals for the sake of motherhood and child-rearing, and both the oldest and the youngest agreed with this statement.

Most people put motherhood first among women's roles

According to 61 percent of respondents, home and family are more important to mothers than work and career. Only 26 percent of those surveyed believe that women who do not have more children despite having a good profession or job are right.

Respondents place motherhood first among women's roles, according to 60 percent of respondents, motherhood is the most important thing in a woman's life. This is followed by the roles related to other family relationships, the role of spouse/partner, then the role of the child who takes care of his parents, and only after these do professional successes related to work follow.

Support for mothers is a particularly important part of Hungarian family policy

65 percent of the respondents with children thought that motherhood is "the pinnacle of female existence", while this ratio was 45 percent for those without children. To the greatest extent, those raising small children put motherhood first, 71 percent think so.

Overall, it can be concluded that, according to the majority of Hungarians, motherhood is the most beautiful profession for women, which they place first among the various female roles.

A particularly important part of Hungarian family policy is the support of mothers and ensuring that women can fulfill themselves both as mothers and as working women.

For this reason, many measures in Hungary help mothers create a balance between family and work, KINCS announced.

The nationally representative research was conducted by interviewing 1,000 adults by telephone between March 22 and 31, 2023.
