One of the conditions, at least in the case of access to structural and regional resources, is to amend the so-called child protection legislation, which is actually seriously exclusionary and sexually stigmatizing, said Daniel Freund, MEP representative of the German Greens/European Free Alliance, in an interview with 444. In this regard, the representative remarked: the European Commission should think about what kind of innovative pressure would be necessary to force meaningful change from the Hungarian government.

– The European Commission (EC) must think about what kind of innovative pressure would be necessary to force meaningful change from the Hungarian government. The pressure exerted so far cannot be called effective - said Daniel Freund, the EP representative of the German Greens/European Free Alliance, in an interview with 444.

As is known, the three-day visit of the delegation of the budget control committee of the European Parliament (EP) to Budapest ended last Wednesday. The four-member delegation was led by Monika Hohlmeier, the Bavarian Christian Socialist president of the committee, and in addition to Katalin Cseh, who was recently suspected of corruption, Sándor Rónai, the EP representative of the Democratic Coalition, and Daniel Freund, the green EP representative, were members as observers.

During the three days, the delegation met with, among others, left-wing journalists, NGOs, Mayor Gergely Karácsony, employees of the State Audit Office, leaders of parliamentary committees and Regional Development Minister Tibor Navracsics.

In his press conference at the time, the head of the ministry highlighted

it was felt that, unfortunately, the delegation did not read the background materials that the Hungarian government sent earlier, this also influenced their opinion-making, which was noticeably biased against the government.

- We sensed progress, for example we had a particularly forward-looking consultation with the head of the Integrity Authority. Still, the overall picture was disappointing and sobering. It does not seem at all that the government is doing everything to free up these resources, said Daniel Freund in the interview. Regarding the statement of the German EP representative, it is worth recalling the previous statement of Judit Varga, who said:

when it is not possible to prove anything specific, then the claim that the overall picture is bad is brought up in Brussels with a communist pace.

Daniel Freund also told the portal: they will present their findings to the committee next week, and the parliament will adopt a resolution on the situation in Hungary at the next plenary session. Their findings will also be taken into account by the parliament. The EP representative said that what they hear from Hungarian companies, left-wing journalists, and NGOs indicates that "the situation in Hungary is not improving, but is constantly worsening." According to Daniel Freund, the Hungarian government is using mafia methods to subjugate entire sectors. He added:

there is another group of criteria that the government does not even want to hear about changing.

One of the conditions, at least in the case of access to structural and regional resources, is to amend the so-called child protection legislation, which is in fact severely exclusionary and sexually stigmatizing. There is no intention to do so, he told the left-wing portal
