The trade ministers of the EU member states have adopted a decree that extends the suspension of all customs, quotas and market protection measures on imports from Ukraine to the EU for another year, until June 2024, the EU Council informed on Thursday.

The decree extended at the meeting of the EU Trade Council in Brussels refers to the suspension of all anti-dumping duties and safeguard measures on imports from Ukraine, and affects fruits and vegetables subject to the entry price system, as well as processed and unprocessed agricultural products subject to tariff quotas.

According to the statement, the measures will help Ukraine to maintain the stability of its trade relations with the EU and its economy even in difficult circumstances. The regulation, valid for another year, affecting trade, supplemented by extensive military, financial and humanitarian support, is essential for the long-term recovery of Ukraine, they wrote.

"By renewing the measures, the EU continues to demonstrate its unwavering political and economic support to Ukraine, which is still facing Russia's unprovoked and unjustified military aggression," they said.

At the end of May last year, the European Union adopted a decree suspending the EU anti-dumping and import duties imposed on all Ukrainian exports to the European Union, including steel exports, and all relevant safeguard measures, in order to facilitate the boost of Ukraine's exports to the Union. Its aim is to ease the situation of Ukrainian producers and exporters, which has become more difficult due to Russian aggression. The measure gives Ukraine full access to the EU market.

The decree enters into force on June 6.

Solidarity is a wonderful thing, practical help is even nicer, it's not worth arguing about. It is a fact that Ukraine is in trouble and it is a fact that if possible, as long as it does not come at the expense of others, any kind of help is welcome.

But! What is the situation within the Union? What do these solidarity measures do to the economies of the EU countries? For example, they successfully fight against Hungarian, Polish, Slovak and Romanian farmers, driving them towards bankruptcy thanks to their great kindness. Let there be thousands of unhealthy cereals (which the decision-makers in Brussels will not eat!) and anything else that does not meet the EU standards by any chance. Because we need to show solidarity!

A sane person (and one who knows movies) will inevitably think of the film Life of Brian, especially the scene when the team of the Judean National Front appears in front of the crucified. But it turns out that they did not come to free the convicts. Because the unit is the Elite Suicide Squad. They kill themselves out of "solidarity". Well, this Brussels elite is like that, only they don't expect from themselves, but from the member countries to take suicidal steps on the basis of solidarity. Either by implementing sanctions packages, or by supplying weapons that prolong the war, or by giving up the protection of markets.

Question: who does Brussels represent? Because there is no sign that it would serve the member states.

Alas, the EU vote is still far away!
