Defense Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky announced on his social media page that the situation at the Kosovo Serb demonstration turned sour, and Hungarian soldiers were also injured in the clash between the demonstrators and KFOR soldiers.
"Hungarian soldiers are stationed in NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR.
Selected soldiers of the Hungarian Armed Forces participating in the NATO peacekeeping force were deployed for mass distribution tasks in the settlement of Zvecan in Kosovo.
Soldiers of several nations were also injured in the clash. According to current information, more than 20 Hungarian soldiers are among them, 7 of whom are seriously injured, but their condition is stable. The injured Hungarian soldiers are transported by air to Hungary for further treatment by the Hungarian Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Defense and the Hungarian Defense Forces provide continuous information on the situation."
Magyar Nemzet also reported that the Italian Ministry of Defense wished a speedy recovery to the Hungarian, Italian and Moldovan soldiers injured in the clashes in a Twitter post.
The situation in Kosovo's northern, Serb-inhabited settlements has been tense again in recent days, after the Serbs refuse to accept the results of the local elections in April, i.e. that the mayors of the settlements are elected by Albanians, who enjoy only negligible support from the voters due to the Serbian boycott. /…../ The authorities used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd, in response the demonstrators retaliated with stones, bottles and other objects they could find.
In the meantime, the Serbian army has again marched to the Kosovo border, and Belgrade accuses the international community and KFOR of protecting the Albanians.
