István Ujhelyi will not run in next year's European Parliament elections. The former socialist politician consulted with several opposition parties, but could not find common ground with any of them, and finally decided to withdraw from European politics for a while.

The former socialist representative announced his decision on Facebook as follows:

"Almost to the day, there is exactly one year left until the next European Parliament elections, in connection with which more and more people stop me on the street, more and more people from the press or my personal supporters ask me through my social media pages whether I will run again for the EP mandate next year, I will continue European work and if so, in what colors. Time to end the guesswork:

After much consideration and consultation, I have made the decision that after ten years of service in the European Parliament - based on the feedback of many, which have been really successful - I will end this phase of my career in Brussels next year."
