We are planning the largest teacher salary increase of all time - the Ministry of the Interior wrote in its announcement on the occasion of Teachers' Day, in which it thanks "all teachers who teach and educate the children and students entrusted to them with love and conscientiousness".

"Despite the current wartime, the government is planning the largest salary increase for teachers since the regime change, and the new teacher career law proposal that establishes this will - after several months of comprehensive professional and social consultation - soon come before the Parliament," wrote the BM.

According to the ministry's statement, "the only reason why the wage increase has been delayed so far is that Brussels is taking time and not paying the EU funds due to Hungary.

When the EU funds due to our country arrive, an unprecedented salary increase for teachers will be realized".

The new law proposal on the career path of teachers guarantees greater professional and financial respect for teachers, and creates the conditions for special salary increases for beginners and teachers dealing with disadvantaged students, they wrote.

The ministry reminded that the government has advanced a 10 percent salary increase for teachers from January of this year.

"When Hungary receives the EU funds that are rightfully due to our country, the largest salary increase for teachers since the regime change may follow. "According to the government's plans, the average teacher's salary will be HUF 561,000 in the first phase, HUF 681,000 next year, and HUF 800,000 in January 2025," the announcement states.
