The European Union would introduce the mandatory distribution of migrants among the member states, and if the relevant legislative process goes through, the member states will not have a say in who will live in their territories, said Bence Rétvári, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, in a statement to MTI on Thursday in Luxembourg .

The state secretary made the statement after the interior ministers of the EU member states adopted a council position on the EU's asylum reform by majority decision.

The adopted document, which contains a general approach,

with regard to asylum affairs, it predicts that "through an EU distribution mechanism, the illegal migrants themselves or the people smugglers who transport them to Europe will essentially decide who will live in Europe"

- He told.

He emphasized:

Together with Poland, Hungary opposed this proposal throughout.

He added: part of the proposal is that

if a member state does not accept migrants, then the immigrant must pay an amount of approximately HUF 8 million to the European Union.

The state secretary called it disproportionate that the position states which member state bears the burden in which proportion of the border protection or procedures to be carried out at the border.

"Although Hungary is not a frontline country according to European decisions, regardless of this, the burden was placed on our country, according to which 28.3 percent of all border procedures must be carried out by the Hungarian authorities. Hungary has to provide almost a third of all EU border procedure capacity, this is because the Hungarian authorities keep a record of exactly how many illegal migrants are returned"

he announced.

Bence Rétvári said that he could not report any progress regarding the EU financing of border protection costs, while Hungary spent more than one and a half billion euros to build these capacities.

"We have repeatedly asked the EU to contribute to the costs of external border protection. If we're talking about solidarity, it doesn't just mean that migrants are distributed among themselves, but that those who strive to distribute as few people as possible should also be part of this," he pointed out.

According to the Secretary of State

the proposal is dangerous, because it contains simplifications and mitigations, and this will definitely act as an incentive for illegal migration.

He also pointed out that the adoption process of the Council's position adopted on Thursday was "an example of double standards and a mockery of European values".

As he said, according to the Hungarian point of view, it brings together the leaders of the EU member states

It is the European Council that has the right to decide on the issue of asylum reforms, but this was ignored by the Council of Interior Ministers.

He also added that on Thursday the ministers voted on proposals that had been distributed a few minutes, at most, half an hour earlier at the council meeting, and that "pro-migration governments" put pressure on the other member states to accept the proposal.

"Hungary is constantly being called into question because of the rule of law, while at the council meeting we saw that decisions on migration issues that will define the next generations are made through unimaginable procedural processes," stated Bence Rétvári.
