In recent weeks, there have been more and more showdowns between illegal immigrants near the Serbian-Hungarian border.
At dawn on Monday, instead of roosters crowing, the people of Szatka once again woke up to gunshots. According to the reports of the residents of the border area, several shots could be heard in the early hours of the morning. The migrants started shooting in the forest. Residents of the area have reported on social media that the sound of clashes can be heard again from the depths of the nearby thicket, near the Hungarian border fence. A video was also made about this.
According to the residents, several ambulances rushed towards the forest at dawn on Monday, so far it is not officially known how many people were injured in the incident or whether there were any fatalities.
In recent weeks, there have been more and more showdowns between illegal immigrants. After one of these actions, police and gendarmerie units march into the forest in large numbers, but the restoration of order usually lasts only a few days, because the gangs return almost immediately and keep the local population in fear.
People are increasingly outraged and are asking what needs to happen for the authorities to put an end to such acts of violence. Several Szatka residents said that they no longer dare to go near the forest at all.
Many, however, have no choice because they live directly in the affected area. They say that despite the authorities' measures, as long as the taxi drivers transport the migrants to the forest undisturbed, the crimes will continue day by day. Illegal immigrants are also often seen in downtown Subotica, sitting on benches or shopping in shopping centers, and then again heading towards the border fence.
Meanwhile, the police held a large-scale operation again on Sunday, this time in the Nagykikinda village. Members of the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia found 43 illegal migrants who were taken to reception centers. According to the statement, after searching the area, the police found two automatic rifles, 28 pieces of ammunition and camouflage uniforms with the immigrants.
The authorities detained an Afghan citizen on suspicion of illegal production and possession of weapons and explosives, who was presented with a criminal complaint, and his case was transferred to the Zentai Elementary Prosecutor's Office.
