The heads of state and government of the European Union have confirmed the strategy of the European fortress in an attempt to solve the migration problems of the twenty-seven member states, reported an Italian portal, which also stated that Charles Michel does not want to make concessions to Warsaw and Budapest.
Poland and Hungary can spoil the mood at the European Council, but not because Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán oppose the European Fortress strategy.
Warsaw and Budapest were angered by the Council's qualified majority vote on the new Migration and Asylum Pact, which includes a mandatory solidarity mechanism, a choice between relocation or financial contribution.
Poland and Hungary are protesting because the European Council decided in 2018 to adopt the new migration and asylum pact by consensus. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, does not want to make concessions to Warsaw and Budapest.
But Morawiecki and Orbán risk jeopardizing the climate of cooperation in the field of migration policies, Il Foglio claims.
