Everyone here in Brussels is asking one thing: where did the money go? Viktor Orbán said in his Thursday Facebook video.

Speaking before the EU summit, the Prime Minister said: the European Commission has submitted a budget amendment proposal, "requesting another, heavy payment of hundreds of billions from the member states".

"The question arises, how did this situation come about? How could the EU be brought to the brink of bankruptcy?" – the head of government listed the questions, pointing out: Brussels wants a lot of money from the member states, while it cannot even account for the money that the member states have given so far to pay the interest on the previously taken out EU loans. "These are the loans from which Hungary and Poland did not see a penny".

"The Hungarian position is clear: first of all, we want to know what the huge amount of money we have given so far has been spent on. Then we also await an answer to who is responsible for bringing the European Union to the brink of bankruptcy," said the prime minister.

Earlier, the Hungarian Prime Minister called the European Commission to account in a Twitter post not without irony.

Viktor Orbán published a post with a GIF on his Twitter page, in which he wrote that only two years have passed in the seven-year budget of the union, but "Brussels is running out of money."

The prime minister also asked how this could have happened.

What happened to the budget, where is the money? asked Viktor Orbán, and then tagged the European Commission's Twitter page as well.
