According to the former prime minister, the opposition is untalented, there are few capable politicians among them, but they are more likely to quarrel with each other. He emphasized that if Orbán does not make major mistakes until then, the next parliamentary election may already be decided.

The opposition prioritizes untalented, scattered, individual ambitions, there are very few people with good abilities among them - but they also quarrel with each other rather than gather their strength -, therefore Orbán is in too easy a position against them - stated Péter Medgyessy in 24.hu In his program Della , when asked why the government's popularity remains unbroken despite the very difficult economic situation,

why the opposition could not increase its support, what it did not understand.

According to the former prime minister, there is no person in the opposition who is able to attract others, and moreover, there is no mood for a change of government in the country, because the government solves minor matters. And what Medgyessy considers to be the most important is that a communication system and media power has emerged, in addition to which even a good and talented opposition would find it very difficult to assert its own opinion, unlike today's. Because of all this, Medgyessy does not expect to replace the Orbán government in the short term.

The former socialist politician said that if the prime minister does not make major mistakes and takes smaller matters further - he always gives a little here, a little there - there, and if he maintains the constant tensions and the maximum lack of solidarity, then

it may well be that the next election has already been decided in your favor.

At the same time, Medgyessy drew attention to the fact that there is a high school age group in which a trust deficit has developed towards politics and decision-makers. The former prime minister stated that the opposition did not realize that the Orbáns did not know what to do with the big problems, so they should have dealt with them, not form an opinion on the daily small issues. According to him, people should be asked to do something different here and give a comprehensive picture of what Hungary should be like.

Péter Medgyessy does not believe that external circumstances and international pressure can change our country.

the Hungarian people will always elect the prime minister. Although they want to create a difficult situation for the government from the outside, they are thereby putting the country in a difficult situation, but it is unlikely that such conditions would develop in the short term that the people would revolt because of this. He argued that this cannot be done in Russia either, and Hungary is a hundred times more democratic.

Now, instead of the former light dictatorship, our country has a light democracy

- claimed the former prime minister.

According to the former prime minister, Viktor Orbán has no nobler goals, the most important thing for him is to retain power.

Péter Medgyessy does not consider Viktor Orbán to be a puppet of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, but in his opinion, apart from economic interests, one should not get too close politically to the great powers. The former socialist minister also spoke in the Della podcast about how he considers nuclear energy important, and that "my opinion is not far from the Orbán government's".

Power must have some other, nobler purpose than retaining it

- said Péter Medgyessy, who misses this nobler goal from the Orbán era. According to him, there are no meaningful concepts for preparing for climate change, renewing the energy system, promoting an educated society, breaking Gypsies out of feudal relations, and eliminating unequal access opportunities in health care.

"Orbán can make good decisions in daily matters, he always tries to push the country beyond the deadlock, but his big sin is that he doesn't think in terms of perspectives, even though he has been given a very long time".

Among the government measures, the former prime minister considers the maintenance of the utility subsidy system to be flawed, because it does not encourage saving. According to him, income replacement support should be given to those in need, but the development of prices should be left to the market - this would be one of his advice to Viktor Orbán, if the current prime minister asked him.
