The Teachers' Union condemns Gergely Gulyás's statement, as it is clear from the statement of the Prime Minister's office that he agrees with it.

Worrying about esteeming teachers

"especially discredited by a trade union that supported the left-wing campaign and is still in cahoots with the parties" that are doing everything in Brussels to prevent the government-planned increase in teachers' wages, unprecedented in the last 30 years

- wrote the Prime Minister's Office.

The minister said at the Government Information held on June 27, 2023 that where there are many children of Roma origin, there are much stronger "integration difficulties". According to the trade union, however, the government does nothing to catch up with the children.

They added: if the living conditions of teachers were really important to PSZ, it would at least fight with the government in the European Union so that Brussels "cancels its debt to Hungary and Hungarian teachers", and in addition to a continuous significant salary increase, in 15 months the average gross salary will be HUF 800,000 should be the teacher's salary in Hungary.

Regarding the reality of the criticisms formulated by the PSZ, the following was highlighted:

Every school district in Hungary has an equal opportunity action plan. The government supported the implementation of the plans with more than HUF 10 billion in the Human Resources Development Operative Program.

The elimination of segregation is an important aspect every year when creating the enrollment districts - they continued, reminding that since 2015, kindergarten education has been made mandatory, so that Gypsy children also receive comprehensive school preparation.

Gypsy children and school failure go hand in hand in the country

They mentioned the Arany János Program, which is operated as a national network to help talented students catch up, in which dormitory accommodation and scholarships are provided. Tanodas were created, which provide afternoon classes and learning opportunities for those in need. They also touched on the fact that a special program was launched to reduce the number of Roma girls who suffer from accumulated disadvantages leaving school without a degree, and the Roma vocational college system was established so that more Roma young people could continue their studies in higher education.

One of the goals of the new teacher careers law and the wage increase program for teachers based on it is to improve the catch-up of disadvantaged students.

According to the law, in beneficiary and catch-up settlements, as well as in those schools where the proportion of disadvantaged students exceeds 10 percent and a catch-up program is being conducted, teachers receive a 20 percent higher salary, reads the announcement of the Prime Minister's Office.
