Defending its title, the women's epee team of Liza Pusztai, Sugár Battai, Luca Szűcs, and Anna Márton won a gold medal at the World Olympic Qualifying Fencing Championship in Milan.

During last year's triumph in Cairo, our team won 45-40. This time, the French led for a long time, and the score was tied again at 29-29. First, thanks to Battai Sugár's translation, the next half ended with a Hungarian advantage - 35-33 on the scoreboard. Anna Márton already handed over the pást to Liza Pusztai in a seven-point match, who closed the final with 45-38.

Previously:

The national team entered Pášta for the first time as a seed among the 16, and started by beating the Poles 45-39 on Saturday.

Anna Márton, who returned in January this year after surgery, long rehabilitation and childbirth, did not start in Sunday's quarter-final against the Greeks, but replacing Battai, she won the eighth ace and beat individual silver medalist Deszpina Georgiadu 5-2. However, there was no reason to be nervous then, because his companions had developed a serious advantage. Primarily, Szűcs was in his element, winning all three of his duels and finishing with a hit rate of plus nine. Pusztai plus one, Battai minus three

In the semi-final against the South Koreans, the Hungarians led from the start, and in the sixth and seventh sets, the gap grew significantly. Battai had problems, four of the ten-hit advantage after the seventh pair went away, but Pusztai, who was a great fencer, did not lose confidence: he went up to the field at 40-34 and ended the match 45-39.

After last year's triumph in Cairo, they again fought with the French for the gold, a year ago our team won 45-40.

The female swordsmen won the delegation's fourth medal in Milan: the dueling Máté Koch and Áron Szilágyi won earlier, the men's sword team of András Szatmári, Csanád Gémesi and Tamás Decsi won, and Szilágyi finished third individually.
