A huge storm was stirred up by the statement of the former president of the LMP the other day, in which he said that Hungary should refuse EU payments until it receives the support it is rightfully entitled to.
Speaking to Mandiner, several politicians expressed their opinions about András Schiffer's position. According to Tamás Deutsch, head of the delegation of the Fidesz European Parliament group, the motion is unfortunately legally unfeasible:
"András Schiffer spoke from my heart. It would be good to proceed in this way, i.e. to refuse Hungary's payment, since it is really a case of EU institutions denying the transfer of EU development funds to a specific country - namely our country - in an obviously illegal manner. In this case, one should act according to the wise Hungarian proverb, which states that "as the god of giving, so be the god of receiving". Unfortunately, however, there is a non-negligible problem, namely that the lawyer's proposal is legally unfeasible, although I am convinced that he did not evaluate the situation from a legal point of view, but rather from a political point of view," stated Tamás Deutsch, former Fidesz EP representative In connection with the LMP leader's proposal that until the European Union pays our country the funds due to us, Hungary will also refuse EU payments.
The Fidesz politician pointed out that the regulation was established decades ago that the EU budget cannot be in a situation where the member states can refuse payments for any reason - as they finance, among other things, the operation of joint institutions, agricultural policy, regional developments, common foreign and security policy, the Erasmus programs, research and development and I could list more - and it is also vital for national economies to have access to funds from the common coffers, since only in this case can they implement their programs.
"However, it didn't even occur at that time that the EU institutions would act illegally, i.e. they would not transfer the development resources due to the member states," emphasized Deutsch.
"Thus, with the creation of the EU rules, the possibility of real abuse of the right by the member states was excluded - by the way, all countries fully agree with this - but no mechanism was created for what happens if the EU institutions commit a violation of norms, if they abuse with the law and their situation, because it never occurred to anyone that all this could happen. It is clear that the world, or at least the European Union, has been turned upside down," said Deutsch, who "can imagine that now the bureaucrats in Brussels are feverishly preparing the notes on whether the Hungarians have found a solution to however, it is possible to bypass the member state payment. But I don't mind if they work hard on it."
They want to bring sovereign governments to their knees, this is about bleeding
Socialist member of the European Parliament István Ujhelyi said on social media that "András Schiffer has either left home completely or is a provocateur of the government's advanced battle..."
Of course, Schiffer didn't let the MSZP politician's belch go without a word. In his Facebook post, he wrote that Ujhelyi's "reaction is a relatively accurate view of the mental state of the Hungarian progressive core. In April last year, they said that all government party voters were stupid and brainwashed. After more than a year, we managed to get to the point that anyone who criticizes the power center from which the relief armies are expected is either a fool or a Fidesz mercenary."
