In two months, according to the plans, the Church of Unity will be completed, which will be a church for everyone, regardless of religious affiliation, and will announce the existence and tragedy of the former Bözödújfalu.
The foundation stone was laid five years ago, the initiators planned the handover for 2019, but they faced several obstacles. The mayor of the small town in Maros county, Attila Zoltán Csibi, does not like to talk about the difficulties, but he said how the construction is now and when the opening ceremony of the church can be expected.
"I prefer to refer to it as a symbol of togetherness, in which all six denominations that once lived in Bözödújfalu can find their place. Two more months and it will probably be ready. The glass roof must be completed. The wooden floor will be covered with glass, because the villagers of Bözöuj requested that it not be closed, so the ship part will not be closed either."
- Attila Zoltán Csibi, mayor of Erdőszentgyörgy, explained the works.
At the same time, we learned that the handover is only planned for next year, as the area around the Church of Unity still needs to be settled.
"Many people donated, we want to address everyone. Next year it will be ten years since the tower of the old Catholic church left in the lake collapsed, and the handover would take place in the future"
said the foreman.
The new building was originally supposed to be handed over in 2019. When we asked about the obstacles, about the two reports that came to our attention, Attila Zoltán Csibi said that he would talk about this when he was ready, that he did not want to cause another confusion if he had already managed to get to this point.
"The construction started as an association initiative, this is a diverse community, it shouldn't have bothered anyone, but it did, and they reported it to the construction authority. That's how the building authority got the hang of it first. Then a legislative amendment helped the case, the construction was transferred from the association to the mayor's office, and this is how it will finally be realized"
said the mayor briefly.
The Church of Unity will remind you of the settlement and community of Bözödújfalu, which belongs to the city of Erdőszentgyörgy, and was buried under water. Once upon a time, Roman Catholic, Unitarian, Greek Catholic, Israelite, Reformed and Eastern Greek religions lived together in peace there.
The water reservoir took over the place of the settlement that fell victim to the communist village destruction. People mourning the loss of their native village still go back to commemorate every year in August.
Last Saturday, the former residents and their descendants held a meeting in the memorial park at the upper corner of the Bözödúj village lake, at the former entrance to the village.
The oldest of those who moved, Anna Szombatfalvi, still considered it important to be present at the age of 95, Népújság wrote. At the wailing wall, parish priest Vilmos Laczkó celebrated mass, but the oldest retired Unitarian priest József Szombatfalvi, a native of the village, also preached.
At the end of the event, in an unusual way, all descendants in the "kopjafa village" stood next to the column representing their own gate, and the pastors and the mayor paid a "house visit" to all of them.
