Regarding today, our first king and his life express for the Benedictine monk that although we feel that we are small, we can do little, but the pursuit of beauty and love, commitment to such a system of values goes beyond what we see.

Father Issák shared his festive thoughts.

"I have always been concerned about Saint Stephen, his personal decision for Christ. As a ruler, he had to take into account different intentions and forces, but he was strongly influenced by his personal experiences, his encounter with Christ as a young man, his early baptism, and his conversion. The resulting decision, in addition to a belief and a set of values, was considered decisive for ages beyond his personal life"

- highlighted Izsák Baán, the priest of the Bakonybéli monastery, in connection with this year's Saint Stephen's holiday.

Regarding today, our first king and his life express for the Benedictine monk that although we feel that we are small, we can do little for the fate of the Earth and the country, but the pursuit of beauty and love, the commitment to such a system of values goes beyond what we see

"We are average people, our power is limited, but we should not underestimate what we have, in our profession, in our family. I see two extremes: one is that we don't live with the power we have, we don't do what is in our power for our children and the environment, and sometimes we burden them irresponsibly by abusing our opportunities. Individual efforts also make sense, this can be recognized by the example of Szent István this year. And if many of us do this, make the right decisions, then at the community level, a lot of good can be born among the bad things"

said father Izsák.

Challenge and mission, the Messiah, loneliness that creates peace - these are the watchwords of this year's Saint Stephen's Day at the Saint Mauricius Monastery in Bakonybéli, where a grandiose baroque oratorio will be performed on August 20 and contemporary fine art will be featured in a special way.

"When a person encounters great challenges, when the situation of his family, community, and nation puts him to a serious test, then he must mobilize his inner resources, which spring from the silence, deep in the heart, and he can also ask for the blessing from above, which, like an anointing, strengthens, empowers, empowers does to complete the tasks.

Our holy king Stephen, who founded our monastery, was helped in his mission by fruitful solitude in prayer and heavenly power from the Creator. And perhaps we ourselves can draw from these two sources. And the anointing from heaven comes to us mostly when we can connect with the Messiah. Those who celebrate with us in Bakonybél will be helped to reflect on these - in addition to the festive ceremonies - by Handel's oratorio and the works of outstanding contemporary Hungarian artists.

The musical event is supported by the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 Cultural Capital of Europe Cultural Network program. The performance of Handel's Messiah oratorio brings together musicians connected to the Benedictine community: the Budapest Bach Consort, the Munich Bach Chamber Choir and the Orlando Ensemble.

Reproductions of the best fine art works on the theme of loneliness that creates peace will be exhibited in the park. The open-air exhibition awaits visitors after its opening on the 20th until the end of October.
