On Monday, Bence Halász received his bronze medal in festive circumstances, surrounded by the applause of thousands of fans.
Canadian Ethan Katzberg (81.25 m) won Sunday's final ahead of the Polish Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki (81.02 m) and the Hungarian classic (80.82 m). On Monday, before the start of the evening program, the three podium finishers received their medals and bouquets from Minister of National Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky and State Secretary for Sports Ádám Schmidt in the medal plaza in the park between the stadium and the main entrance.
It is an innovation that the medal ceremony is held consecutively before each evening's program in the park area next to the stadium. This clearly fulfilled the hopes attached to it on Monday as well, as the competitors can almost feel like rock stars on the stage, as the crowd almost at arm's length erupted in ovation during the presentation of the podium winners.
The area between the podium and the platform created for photographers about 20 meters away was completely filled with spectators, and those who could not fit there watched the ceremonies from the side and cheered on the medal-winning athletes.
The awards ceremony ended with the man throwing the hammer, before which the fans could see the British Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the heptathlon champion, and the American Noah Lyles, who earned the gold for being the fastest, get emotional on top of the podium.
At the medal ceremony for the hammer throwers, Bence Halász received even more applause and celebration than the others, and at the end of the ceremony, in a mini-interview on top of the podium, he thanked the Hungarian audience again for their support, and at the same time indicated that from now on he would only focus on the next year's main competitions, the European Championship and the will focus on the Paris Olympics.
The organizers also made a big contribution to the celebration of Bence Halász's performance by making Sunday tickets valid for the ceremony. Owners of "expired" tickets were not only allowed into the World Cup area at the medal plaza, but could also buy tickets from the remaining tickets for the Monday evening program in the upper part of the auditorium at a 50 percent price.
