Jens Spahn, CDU vice-president and former health minister, gave an interview to the German Bild on Sunday, in which, in addition to criticism of the Scholz government, he also spoke about the need for Germany to break out of the grip of uncontrolled migration. According to Spahn, they need targeted immigration adapted to the needs of the labor market, as well as the protection of the EU's borders. At the same time, according to the German politician, even in this case, 300,000 to 500,000 migrants should be admitted to the EU annually, who would then be distributed among the member states through the quota system. The politician also criticized the radical right-wing, Eurosceptic and anti-immigration AfD, whom he appointed as allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, reports hirado.hu .

"The German and French governments should enforce the freezing of bureaucracy in the EU" and no new rules should be adopted from Brussels in the next three years - among other things, Jens Spahn, vice-president of the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), spoke to Bild Sunday.

Economic downturn

Speaking about the functioning of the German government, Spahn stated that it is descending into chaos.

“Everyone is fighting each other and the chancellor is just watching. They legalize weed, but in the process they shut down the economy and jobs. This combination is social poison itself," said the politician, referring to the German government's crisis management.

It was brought up in the interview that the CDU had governed Germany for sixteen years, while the Scholz cabinet has only been governing since 2021. Jens Spahn stated: political decisions are made against Germany every day (referring to the high taxes on workers and the decline in investment - ed.).

The politician pointed out that today an average German earner receives a net 400-500 euros less per month due to record inflation. As he said, such a drop in welfare has never been experienced in the history of the federal state. In this regard, he spoke about the complete failure of the Scholz cabinet.

Illegal migration

"Germany must break away from this completely uncontrolled migration of refugees," Spahn assessed the effects of illegal migration. The Christian Democrat politician believes that the only way to do this is to stop illegal migrants at the borders of the European Union. Although, in response to Bild's question, he admitted that Germany needs to replace the labor force, he also emphasized that the integration of migrants requires serious resources, so it can only be successful if the number of additional arrivals and asylum seekers decreases.

The politician explained that Germany needs a skilled workforce, which he sees as a solution in targeted immigration. At the same time, he also added that even with functioning EU border protection, they would expect the arrival of 300,000 to 500,000 refugees each year, which would be distributed among the member states through the quota system.

I fear the AfD

Related to the issue of mass migration, Bild asked the politician what he thinks could stop the rise of the radical right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD). According to Jens Spahn, the main thing that could slow down the rise of the radical right is if the German government solves the existing problems.

As the rest of the interview revealed, it is emphatically important for the CDU to win over voters from the AfD.
