The Hungarian Autonomous Orthodox Israelite Hitközség (MAOIH) and the EMIH – Hungarian Jewish Association are waiting for an unusual event: the VII. prayer house located at Jósika utca 4 in the district.

The apartment synagogue, built in 1895, which was founded by the hat maker Bernát Kattler in memory of his daughter, Erzsébet Kattler, closed its doors forty years ago after a dramatic decrease in the number of believers led to the termination of the community.

Thanks to the cooperation of MAOIH and EMIH, the completely renovated house of worship will reopen with a grand opening ceremony on September 5, at 6 p.m., as a stop of the EMIH Synagogue Week event series.

At the event, the new Torah scroll of the synagogue will be completed by writing the last letters, which the celebrants will accompany with music and dance to the prayer house named Ohel Eszter (Esther's tent) after the Hebrew name of the original namesake.

Rabbi Mordecáj Bak and his wife will work on the reorganization of the synagogue's community, and those interested can meet the young rabbi's family at the opening.
