As you know, the idea of the statue was born back in 2017, on the occasion of the 825th anniversary of the canonization of Saint László. Although it is in favor of the current choice of location that the castle is closely related to the life of Saint László, the residents of the town on the Körös coast requested with 8,000 signatures that the statue of the city's founding knight-king be placed on the main square that formerly bore his name, but their request was rejected by the then mayor Ilie Bolojan .

The 5.3-meter-high statue was created based on the model of the sculptor Árpád Deák, and the bronze casting was done by Ovidiu Petroman in the Artcast workshop in Zimándújfalu, Arad county. The costs of creating the public artwork were borne by the Roman Catholic bishopric, while the costs of building the pedestal, as well as the costs of transportation and placement, were borne by the town hall of Nagyvárad. Its completion was supported by the Hungarian government and the Hungarians of Nagyvárad.

Anyway, the castle once housed two statues of the Hungarian king Saint László, the 14th century standing and equestrian statue was the work of the famous masters Márton and György from Cluj, who also created the statue of Saint George in Prague.
