Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, the footballer who won the golden boot of the 2002 World Cup, was baptized on September 12, 2023, shortly before his 47th birthday, in the Church of Saint Joseph in São Paulo. "Today is a very special day. I was baptized.” Ronaldo shared the news on his Instagram page on Tuesday.
In the post, the two-time Brazilian world champion said that the Christian faith has always been a fundamental part of his life since childhood, even though he was not baptized.
Ronaldo highlighted:
"I feel that through holiness I have been truly reborn as a child of God - in a new, more conscious and deeper way. I walk the path of goodness with a renewed commitment, of my own free will, with faith in the love of Jesus, in the love that serves."
Ronaldo's approach to the Catholic faith was also evident in his pilgrimage in 2022, when he made a bicycle pilgrimage from the stadium of his club, Real Valladolid, to Santiago de Compostela, the tomb of St. James the Apostle.
