If the DK gives ten people, then Gergő can't even go to the toilet - important details about the struggle of the left have been leaked. Gyurcsány no longer wants to take down Karácsony, but to weaken him to the extreme and narrow his room for maneuver.
Telex wrote a long article about the tactics of Ferenc Gyurcsány, the internal suffering of the left, and the preparations for the municipal elections. The article reveals that in April 2022, four weeks after the parliamentary elections that ended with a shocking defeat for the opposition, parties allied in the campaign created a group on the communication channel called Signal. They add: background people from the parties who rarely appear in public have joined the group.
The Signal group was called the "election damage assessor", which aimed to analyze the causes of the disastrous result for them and learn the lessons.
However, this work was essentially finished before it had begun in earnest.
The members of the group met at DK's Teréz körút office, shared a few documents with each other, but did not really do any deep analytical work.
"We didn't even fully analyze where the Jobbik voters went," recalled one of the group's members.
"According to the participants, the personal meetings were mostly of a therapeutic nature," the portal reports: and in the Signal group, such topics were discussed as the representative of one of the parties has contracted covidos, and the other is going to appear in the ATV.
Not only did the left-wing parties not discuss the reasons for the defeat, but it is not yet clear how they would be able to pose a real challenge to the government. Although there have been economic difficulties in the past year, the opposition, which ran jointly in last year's election, could not profit significantly from this, even though this would have been the political paper form.
In recent months, Direkt36 has held conversations with dozens of opposition sources - politicians and consultants - to uncover the reasons for this.
"Most of the sources gave information about internal events on the condition that we grant them anonymity," reports Telex.
The material shows that instead of defeating Fidesz, the left is mostly busy with defeating each other, but at least with fighting for a better position for themselves in the 2024 local government and European Parliament elections. While the smaller parties (MSZP, Párbeszéd) call for unity, the DK's most important goal is to clean up the opposition, to grind in the small ones, or, as Telex puts it, to "disappear political organizations that do not have real support."
The analysis reveals, among other things, that the DK is no longer looking for potential challengers to Karácsony so intensively, and rather concentrates on increasing its influence in the Capital Assembly, without whose support the mayor has very little room for maneuver.
"If the DK gives ten people, then Gergő can't even go to the toilet", explained an opposition campaign consultant, what could be the consequence if the DK manages to get more local government seats.
According to the article, in the spirit of this, Gyurcsány agreed with Karácson that he would not stand in the way of the re-election of the mayor, nor would he even field a counter-candidate against Karácsony, even though, according to the Telex, he had previously contacted the mayor of Ferencváros, Krisztina Baranyi.
It is known that Gyurcsány considers Karácsony's policy towards the government to be very soft, and for this reason he has publicly threatened him several times.
The most memorable is when the President of DK accused Karácsony of violating his patriotic duty on SpiritFM: "Here is a city of almost two million people, two-thirds of which is up to Orbán's rule. He has a mayor who is close to us. The mayor is not willing to fulfill the patriotic obligation of bringing the city into this struggle". In response, Karácsony announced that Budapest would not pay the disputed HUF 25 billion to the state treasury.
