Ukraine's National Committee for State Language Standards has decided that writing words like "Russia" and "Moscow" in lowercase in unofficial documents is no longer considered a mistake, Politico reported .

The committee announced that the decision was made following an appeal by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereschuk and an official letter from the Institute of Linguistics of Ukraine and the OO Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

From now on, the lowercase writing of terms such as "Russian Federation", "Russia", "Moscow", "Kingdom of Moscow", "Russian Empire" and "State Duma of the Russian Federation" will not mean "a deviation from the norms of the Ukrainian language in unofficial in texts"

the committee announced.

Many Ukrainians, especially on social media, have been capitalizing on the above ever since the Kremlin launched its invasion in February 2022.
