The XIII. was renewed. St. Margaret's Church on Lehel Square in the district; the building, renovated inside and out, was blessed by Cardinal Péter Erdő, Archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest, in the context of the Holy Mass on Sunday.
After the mass, Miklós Soltész, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for church and ethnic relations, emphasized in his greeting:
in a world where people kill in the name of God and spread ideologies that destroy the created world, there is a great need to teach the ten commandments, which are also conveyed by the Christian churches.
He added: according to a survey published a few months ago, 85 percent of Hungarians consider the Ten Commandments important in their own lives. This is why the government supports Christian communities in the renovation of their churches and public spaces.
Miklós Soltész expressed his joy and gratitude that many churches and chapels have been renovated in Budapest, the capital of the nation, and that Pope Francis visited the city twice. These, he added, all strengthen the Christian community.
In his homily, Péter Erdő talked about: the church has been a place of encounter with God since ancient times, and in Catholic churches Jesus Christ, who also called his own body a church, is present in a special way. Not only because he is present in the praying community, where two or three people gather in his name, but "he is here in the Eucharist in a very special way," said the cardinal.
"We celebrate him in the Holy Mass, he is our food when we sacrifice. (...) He is the one who, starting from the church, can create a community of prayer and helping love among us and who, through us, wants to save the world from sin, from hopelessness, from all evil impulses"
Péter Erdő emphasized.
At the end of the mass, the faithful held a procession around the church, which was consecrated 90 years ago.
