The day of Jesus' condemnation, torture, death and burial. There is no mass on this day. We remember the day when the eternal High Priest himself presented his sacrifice on the altar of the cross.

The altar is empty, there is no cross, no tablecloth, no candles. On Good Friday there is liturgy of the Word, with sacrifice. The priest performs the ceremony in red clothing - red is the liturgical color of martyrdom. The clergy and assistants enter the church in total silence and fall on their faces in front of the empty altar cabinet (tabernacle). This is followed by the liturgy: the reading is about the suffering servant of God, and after the holy lesson, the passion story of Jesus is read from the Gospel of John. After that, the universal supplications follow in a solemn form, and then comes the once-a-year homage to the cross, the Veneration of the Cross.

Good Friday prayer (detail)

Lord, they mocked You,
They tortured You
Who loved
all the suffering.
He nailed the
world to the cross,
Who always only
comforted him.
