Semmelweis won three awards at the Hungarian Film Festival in Los Angeles: Lajos Koltai's direction won the best film, H. Miklós Vecsei won the best actor award, and Katica Nagy won the best actress award for her performance in the film about the rescuer of mothers.

During the five-day event, which will last until Tuesday evening, 19 Hungarian films will be shown at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Los Angeles, the award winners were announced over the weekend, the National Film Institute told MTI on Sunday.

The work depicting the life of the world-famous Hungarian doctor Ignác Semmelweis, known as the savior of mothers, was shown as the opening film of the Los Angeles festival. The gala was attended by the creators of the film, government commissioner Csaba Káel and Colleen Bell, head of the California Film Commission, who was previously the ambassador of the United States of America to Hungary.

"It is a great pleasure to experience this success, which welcomed Hungarian creators in Los Angeles, and it is a special pleasure to be able to present a film about a world-famous Hungarian scientist in the year of two Hungarian Nobel Prize winners. At the Hungarian Film Festival in Los Angeles, Katica Nagy shared the award for best actress with Katalin Román, the main Hat hét , and Veronika Noémi Szakonyi received the award for best director Hat hét . The award for the best screenplay was awarded to Norbert Köbli for the Blokád , while the best cinematographer went to Márk Győri for the Hadik . The prize for the best documentary film went to Tamás Széles, who presented the life of Ágoston Haraszthy, the creator of the world-famous Californian wine culture. In recognition of his work, Lajos Koltai was awarded a lifetime achievement award at the opening event of the festival.

The closing film of the 21st Los Angeles Hungarian Film Festival will be Tamás Zákonyi S. Zákonyi's documentary film about the Hungarian water polo legends entitled The Golds of the Nation
