The state secretary responsible for bilateral relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade called cross burnings unacceptable anywhere in Hungary in a video uploaded to his social media site on Sunday; Tamás Menczer called for action against "modern-day Christian persecution" in the case of the re-erecting of the cross burned on the Nagy-Szénás hill.

Tamás Menczer, the region's Fidesz member of parliament, said that in the case of the cross that was set on fire in August, "it is an issue far beyond religion". According to his statement, he will do everything he can to ensure that a cross stands on the mountain again. The government office issued the necessary permits, "however, there are people who do not want a cross to stand here," he said.

He added: such a person is, for example, András Füri, the director of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, who, according to him, would exterminate the cruciferous sedge, the orphan-leaved sedge and the badger sedge. The Nature and Environmental Protection Association of Nagykovács does not want the cross to be erected either, the president of the organization, Judit Vojczek, contested the government office permit in court, so there will be court proceedings in the case.

"The First Lady and her team also claim" that if the cross is re-erected, they will kill the large fox moth, the saw-legged grasshopper and destroy the fat millet flower

said the Fidesz politician.

Tamás Menczer explained that he thinks environmental protection is an important issue, but it is obvious that it is not about protecting the environment here.

"What András Füri, the director of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, and President Judit Vojczek are doing is modern-day Christian persecution." "I will fight this"

- he said, adding: everyone who cares about erecting the cross can count on it. According to him, "we must prepare for a serious fight", which is why he asked for people's support in the case.
