The 23rd Tata Wild Duck Bird Festival will be held on Saturday, at which, in addition to observing the many thousands of geese, ducks, seagulls and bald eagles through a telescope, a variety of programs await those interested throughout the day, the Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Association (MME) informed.

As they recall, the wild geese wintering on Tata's Öreg Lake come to Hungary from a distance of up to 5,000-6,000 kilometers, from the northern regions of Scandinavia and Siberia, the first flocks appear at the end of September, beginning of October, and then return to their Arctic nesting areas in March.

In its statement, the MME highlights that the Tatai Wild Boar Run is realized thanks to the work of volunteer organizers.

They add that Old Lake Tata, which falls within the scope of the Ramsar Convention for the protection of wetlands of international importance, is the only bird resting place in Europe that is almost completely surrounded by a city. In recent weeks, there have been about 42,000 wild geese in the Ramsar area formed by the wetlands around Tata, including a maximum of 39,000 wild geese in Tata's Öreg Lake, and during the day thousands of ducks, steppe and Great Dane can also be seen on the lake.

During the peak period, at the end of November and the beginning of December, the number of wild geese that spend the night on the lake can reach up to 65 thousand

says the announcement.

In addition to observing the thousands of geese, ducks, seagulls and bald eagles through a telescope, visitors can enjoy a variety of programs, performances, and crafts throughout the day.
