The Wass Albert Circle (SWAK) in Sárospatak is collecting Christmas donations this year to help Hungarian families with children in Subcarpathia (Beregdéda) who are in need.

Everyone probably knows from the news that due to the Russian-Ukrainian war that has lasted for more than a year and a half, our Transcarpathian compatriots who remained in their homeland are living in even more dramatic conditions than before. For years, our association has been collecting financial donations at the end of the year to help Hungarian families with children in need in Transcarpathia, including in Beregdéda. The Hungarian minority living there is fighting for survival in this situation, and we, the Hungarians of the motherland, cannot be indifferent, we cannot leave our fellow sufferers alone.

In recent years - due to the epidemic situation, or in view of the restrictive measures introduced - we were waiting for the donations primarily for the account of the association. We are still primarily waiting for offers to our account, but we hope that we can also use the traditional method of personal visits, or we will also be able to collect with collection boxes during the candle lightings at the city's Advent celebrations. Thanks to the large number of generous referrals and donations, HUF 492,615 was collected last year, which we were able to distribute among 22 needy families in the village of Beregdéda, close to the border. In this extremely difficult, truly dramatic, wartime situation, our association especially wants to help our needy Transcarpathian brothers and sisters, so that they do not feel that they are alone in the midst of their problems. This is the oldest of our community's activities, and we will continue this beautiful and noble tradition this year as well.

Our collection lasts until December 24.

This year, too, we are waiting for donations primarily for the account of the association.

In the announcement column, please write: donation to Transcarpathia.
Account number: 11734169-20014184
Account name: Sárospataki Wass Albert Kör

According to our plans, the collected donation will be handed over personally at the end of the year, which will be reported on the city website and the association's Facebook page as usual.

Help us so we can help! Thanks for everyone's help!

"He is a Hungarian and a man with unbroken faith."
