Since the last quarter of the last century, science has been increasingly concerned with climate change, and in the last ten years - with the transformation of the "green movements" into parties - politics has also been concerned with climate change.
The Miskolc Club of the Civil Unity Forum organizes a discussion dissecting the issues of climate change, in cooperation with the ÉLETFA Social and Environmental Culture Foundation, the ÉLETMŰTÁRS Art and Civil Studies Association, the Miskolc Utcáin platform and the 1956 Vitéz Friends Society.
How much? What is how much? - At the event entitled "Interpreting climate change", Prof. Academician László Szarka gives a lecture, followed by dr. Attila Lengyel, the honorary president of the CÖF Club Miskolc, talks to the scientist with the participation of the audience.
CÖF Klub Miskolc, in the OUR EXISTENCE QUESTIONS series, explores the problems that may limit the chances of the future generation, our children and grandchildren, to survive on Earth.
We considered this to be the case with our initiated conversation about the methods and possibilities of ethical farming with sister Laura Baritz Sarolta or our orientation regarding the spirit of Islam, especially the spirit of radical Islam, with academician Miklós Maróth. For the same purpose, we invited professor György Nógrádi and political scientist Zoltán Kiszelly to expand our knowledge about the transformation of the world order.
Since the last quarter of the last century, science has been increasingly concerned with climate change, and in the last ten years - with the transformation of the "green movements" into parties - politics has also been concerned with climate change.
Unfortunately, while the "green" parties, creating almost a terror of opinion, appropriate the media related to the protection of the environment and climate change, they even brag about their lack of natural science training.
Therefore, we consider it important to deal with this question in our circles with a scientific need, and for our members to expand their knowledge from professionally unquestionable sources.
László Szarka graduated from the Technical University of Heavy Industry in Miskolc with honors in 1977, and obtained his doctorate with summa cum laude in 1982. In 1987, he became a candidate, and in 1997 he became a doctor of earth sciences. Since 1977, he has been working at the Geodesy and Geophysics Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Sopron, and since 1991 he has been the head of the Geophysics Department. Meanwhile, between 1997 and 1999, he was a visiting professor in Paris ("professeur associé temporaire", Université Paris Sud). He has been teaching at the University of Sopron since 1993. In 1999, he completed his habilitation in Miskolc. Since 1999, he has also been the head of the University Institute of Earth Sciences in Sopron. Private university teacher in 2001, and university professor from 2004. He was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2013 and a full member in 2019.
"A reasonable approach to environmental science and the protection of the natural world requires less political ideology, correct management of natural resources, thorough natural science education and - above all - sound judgement," said László Szarka in his 2019 academic chair acceptance speech entitled Earth and Man.
We cordially invite and welcome all interested parties to the event on November 30, 2023 at 5 p.m. in Miskolc, in the club room of the House of Science and Technology (Görgey A. u. 5).
