Brussels has so far blocked the payment of 21.7 billion euros of the cohesion fund, but 10.4 billion of this could soon arrive in Hungary.

Referring to EU officials, Euronews writes that Brussels considers the domestic steps sufficient, thanks to which the sum will be released from the cohesion fund.

The EU politician, who asked not to be named, told the newspaper that the total amount is not yet known, but the payment of another 500 million euros is not excluded. According to his words, they have seen important reforms that contribute to strengthening the independence of the Hungarian judiciary.

The committee is expected to make a decision sometime before Dec. 15, almost a year after the original decision to stop the payments.

In connection with the mentioned ten billion euros, the consent of the member states is not required.
