Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Kossuth Radio's Good Morning Hungary program that Hungary recommends that Brussels not put Ukraine's EU accession on the agenda, as the country at war is not currently suitable for candidate status. In addition to this, the head of government also spoke about the law on the protection of sovereignty, the purpose of which is to prevent foreign powers from influencing the democratic decisions of the Hungarian people. Viktor Orbán also said that the year 2024 will be a year of hope.

According to the basic treaty of the union, decisions on certain topics can only be made if all member states agree, so we must not allow ourselves to be pushed into a situation where we have a guilty conscience because we are preventing the implementation of decisions already made by others. In the case of Ukraine, there are no such decisions - said Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Kossuth Rádió Good morning, Hungary! in his show.

According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine's accession to the EU does not meet Hungarian national interests,

therefore, we do not recommend that we discuss it and then decide not to put it on the agenda, because it can be seen in advance that we will not agree.

Instead, the Hungarian proposal is that there should be a discussion about this first and that preparations for Ukraine's accession to the EU should only begin when the decision has already been sufficiently prepared.

Viktor Orbán stated that the Committee must understand that the meeting was poorly prepared, and that the issue can only be put back on the agenda if an agreement has already been reached.

Viktor Orbán said that there are many questions regarding Ukraine's EU accession to which we do not know the answers.

First of all, Ukraine is at war, and its legal system works differently than a country living in peace, said the Prime Minister. He then continued: we do not know how large the territory of Ukraine is, since part of it is militarily occupied territory.

On the other hand, we do not know what effect the inclusion of Ukrainian agriculture in the free market of the European Union will have - Viktor Orbán listed,

according to Hungarian farmers, the inclusion of Ukrainian agriculture will ruin the farmers by hundreds of thousands.

We also don't know how much money would be needed to rebuild the country if Ukraine were to join, said the Prime Minister.

He added: until these questions are answered, we do not know what the consequences of Ukraine's accession would be.

Our opinion is that

first, the European Union should conclude a strategic agreement with Ukraine to bring the country closer. And then, if we see that we can cooperate, then let's bring up the question of membership, but this will only be possible after many, many years

the prime minister pointed out.

We gave over a hundred billion euros to Ukraine in the form of military equipment and finance, if we hadn't given it, Europe would be in a better state now

Viktor Orbán emphasized.

"Europe is in bad shape, and it's throwing money around," he added.

The prime minister stated: we are sending the money so that the Ukrainians win, but they do not win. That's why

instead of war, a cease-fire would be needed, this should be financed, and then peace.

According to him, the other subject of discussion is that if we want to give money, where should we give it from, from the budget, or should there be a separate intergovernmental agreement, a fund into which everyone pays as much as they want. "The issue is so hot because the financial support stretched the budget," the prime minister noted.

Viktor Orbán sees that the essence of the budget is stability and predictability, the two do not work together, war support destroys the former, and this is already visible, since the money ran out in the third year of the 7-year budget.

He added: the population of many countries does not support remittances, but their leaders do, but they do not act fairly, they say that the Union gives them, " but we are the Union, we give". "This is unacceptable in a democracy," he declared.

The Prime Minister also spoke about how, among other things, the national consultation is good because people can say what they think about it. The Hungarian government is forced to fight, and in this fight "everyone is needed".

those who care about the homeland, the sovereignty of Hungary, should give support, because this gives strength in the negotiations

stated the Prime Minister.

"There have always been empires around us that were bigger than us and wanted to eat into us, this is the law of empires. But we moved in such a way that we could participate in the funerals of all empires. History shows that even those greater than us have died, and we are still here," said Viktor Orbán, adding that in 1,100 years, Hungarians have proven that they can organize their own lives and do not need others to tell them. how to live.

There are always those who think that we should join the empires, in good times these people can't get close to the government, but in bad times they can, said Viktor Orbán. "There was a Gyurcsány era here," he remarked.

According to him, foreigners exert their influence in two ways: one is that there is a government, they try to influence its decisions.

"For example, the desire of the Americans now is to somehow squeeze us into the war"

said the Prime Minister.

The other is that when there are elections, they try to influence people not to elect a national government, he said. "That's why there were rolling dollars."

"It is in the country's interest to have clear and unambiguous rules that cannot be circumvented," said Viktor Orbán.

The Prime Minister also said that 2023 was the most dangerous year: sanctions, inflation, energy crisis. This year, the Hungarian people worked to prevent it from getting worse.

2024, on the other hand, will be a year of hope: we will no longer work there to make it not worse, but to make it better.

And there are already the first signs of this: raising the minimum wage, increasing pensions, and reducing inflation.

Pensions will continue to be increased by 6 percent annually, and if there is 5 percent inflation and wages increase by 10-15 percent, then this will drag down the wages of public workers and push other wages up as well, said the prime minister. He added that wage increases in Hungary will exceed price increases.

It is of great value to the Hungarian economy that the level of the guaranteed wage is not determined by the government, but by the trade unions and the employees. The government is only mediating in this matter, he explained.

The actors of the Hungarian economy have agreed that Hungarian companies will be able to do this in 2024.

Regarding social security, he said that the Hungarian government renewed the urban social security and expanded the rural social security, and in addition, they also increased the childcare loan

Viktor Orbán listed.

The proportion of Hungarians under the age of 40 who own their own home reached 75 percent, said the prime minister.

He said that Hungary can be the bridge between East and West. Viktor Orbán also said that Hungary has taken its place in the world in the last 20-30 years.

We left the Soviet bloc and entered the Western world. However, now we have to decide based on economic aspects -

all closures and blockades put Hungary at a disadvantage.

Even the blind can see that the most developed part of the world is in the East. That's why they see me one day in Switzerland, the next in Azerbaijan, next week in Argentina, and then in Brussels, because I'm trying to expand the space for Hungarian economic actors so that they can do business abroad as successfully as possible, and that as many benefits as possible can come to Hungary, he added.
