Paul Craig Roberts was Under Secretary of State for Economic Policy at the US Department of the Treasury under President Ronald Reagan, and after leaving the government he held the Chair of Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He wrote the following bitter lines in the past few days.

I have often wondered what the citizens of Rome must have thought as they watched the Roman Empire disintegrate culturally, politically, morally, and militarily.

Cicero quaestor, praetor and councilor of Rome tried to save the Roman Republic. He was persecuted and killed for his efforts. As Cicero was perhaps the most famous Roman, his assassination ended the efforts to prevent Rome's descent into tyranny.

The same is happening today with those who try to warn us of danger. Julian Assange, for example, was held in prison for a decade without being convicted, against all known American and British laws. He was simply fulfilling his duty as a journalist, reporting on the crimes of our elected corrupt leaders. No one did anything about it, not even his journalist colleagues.

When justice is punished, a country dies.

Rome survived centuries after its original self had departed because its enemies were weak compared to it. Rome destroyed itself. As many or more Romans died in civil wars against each other than in repelling barbarian invasions.

The enemies that Washington has created for America are not weak. Russia alone, China alone, maybe even Iran alone can match America. However, the three together represent a huge force against American military capabilities. Yet Washington continues to increase hostility with these countries. The stupidity of my government is intolerable. What complete nonsense.

Once the idiotic Biden regime's economic sanctions and the loss of the US reserve currency role end the US dollar, America will be over. We will be a third world country and the rest of the world will punish us for the sins of our government.

Tell that to the Americans!
