János Bródy's son, Dániel, was sentenced to two years in prison in America: according to the accusation, the young computer scientist hacked the system of the bank that employed him in revenge after he was fired.
The San Francisco court found the son of the Hungarian musician guilty of three charges, who was an employee of the famous San Francisco financial institution, The First Republic Bank, until it was revealed that he had connected to his protected machine connected to the internal system a data carrier, which contained pornographic content - reports Bors .
The company's security department immediately initiated disciplinary proceedings and he was soon fired, but János Bródy's son did not leave the decision at that: after his dismissal, he did not hand in his company laptop, but took it home and took revenge.
According to the indictment, the man, who worked as a cloud engineer for the company, deleted the bank's code repositories from his company laptop, ran a malicious script to delete the logs, left taunts in the bank's code for former colleagues and impersonated other bank employees by opening sessions on their behalf. At the time of the sentencing, the judge determined the total cost of the damage caused to the bank's systems at around 220,000 dollars (about 76 million forints).
According to the supplemental indictment, after the man was fired, he began to act deceptively and filed a police report, falsely claiming that his company-provided laptop had been stolen from his car while he was at the gym.
He later repeated this false claim to agents of the US Secret Service, but in April 2023 he admitted his guilt. However, the verdict in his case has only just been handed down: he was sentenced to 24 months in prison and ordered to pay 529,000 dollars, i.e. an amount equivalent to HUF 182 million.
