Seventeen years have passed since 2006. Since then, a new generation has grown up, several of whom will be of voting age next year. Many of them do not even know what happened on October 23, 2006, the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Struggle. On that day, the power led by the then Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány attacked his own nation and launched a terrorist attack against those commemorating the 50th anniversary. He shot into the crowd of people celebrating peacefully, not sparing children, families and the elderly.
Several people were dragged away by terrorist commandos disguising themselves as policemen, and then they tortured and humiliated these people. Others had their eyes shot out. Two people lost their lives as a result of this terrorist attack. If not then, but within a few years, but as a result of the mental shock acquired then and there, health problems or the resulting existential disadvantages. One of them was László Nagy, whose video of his injury in 2006 went viral almost all over the world. the creator and organizer of the Flag of the Nation event on Andrássy Úton, wants to erect a monument in memory of him and the other victims
Ákos Szilágyi wrote the following about why he sees the need to erect this monument:
An emblematic era of 2006 has come to an end. The defendants in Budaházy's Hunnia trial were all pardoned in the end. With this, the events of 2006 and the accountability of their real culprits started towards the darkness of oblivion.
I therefore considered it necessary to - without threatening the outcome of the Hunnia trial - set up a reminder that 50 years after our glorious 1956 revolution, blood flowed again on the streets of Pest.
The basis of justice is to avoid forgetting.
We therefore welcome all like-minded people who share the above opinion and consider the memorial presented below suitable for maintaining memory. Please support its implementation with your signatures at the entrance to Dohány utca.
