Today, Budapest and Ankara celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, but this day will certainly remain memorable for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who received an extraordinary surprise in front of the Carmelite Monastery.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Budapest on Monday for the next meeting of the Hungarian-Turkish High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, where he will discuss security, defense industry and economic matters with Viktor Orbán.

The Turkish head of state was received by President Katalin Novák with a military salute at Heroes Square, and then the two presidents held a face-to-face meeting in the Sándor Palace.

During the meeting, the President of the Republic emphasized that Turkey is a key country for Hungary in terms of stopping illegal migration and energy security, but it also plays an important role in the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East, which were also discussed by the two heads of state. Turkey is also an ally of Hungary as a NATO member.

In relation to NATO, the two presidents also discussed the challenges of the eastern wing of the North Atlantic Alliance and the difficulties of its expansion.

Both presidents expressed their joy that, on the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, Hungarian-Turkish relations are good and growing stronger. Both welcomed the fact that 17 agreements will be signed during the visit of the Turkish president to Hungary as a sign of this, including the signature of the key strategic partnership agreement between the two countries.

Katalin Novák expressed her joy that cooperation between the two countries is also being established in family matters.

A good example of the cooperation between Hungary and Turkey is the joint Hungarian-Turkish cultural season, announced on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which will faithfully reflect the richness of the cultures of the two countries and the points they have in common. .

Katalin Novák and Recep Tayyip Erdogan will take part in the opening concert of the joint Hungarian-Turkish cultural season on Monday in the Palace of Arts.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary and Turkey are starting a broader energy cooperation than ever before

on the basis of a recent agreement, following which the purchase of natural gas from Turkey can start next year.

In addition, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán surprised the Turkish head of state with a truly special gift:

"A gift from an equestrian nation to an equestrian nation: Főúr, the nonius stallion of the Mezőhegyes Stud Farm," wrote the Hungarian Prime Minister on social media, who shared a photo of the gift.

The guest was not left in shame either: according to the photo published by the Prime Minister's Press Office, Viktor Orbán received a Togg brand car from the Turkish president.
