After many grocery chains announced that they would not be open on December 24, the popular restaurant chain has now announced that it will remain closed on Sunday.

"Taking into account the interests of the workers and their families, domestic McDonald's restaurants will be closed from 6 a.m. on December 24"

the company announced.

They added that the initiative is not new, as most of the restaurants operated by Progress Restaurant Network Kft. have been closed on December 24th and typically on December 25th in recent years as well. This year, restaurant workers will have the opportunity to spend the holidays with their loved ones on an even wider scale, including franchise stores.

Out of 113 restaurants, the only exceptions are those located in the Aréna Mall and MOM Park, as the shopping center has prescribed opening hours there.

"For our company, it is extremely important that our colleagues can spend the Christmas holiday in peace with their family members and loved ones. In previous years, the majority of McDonald's restaurants in Hungary were closed on December 24, but this year, together with our franchise partners, for the first time we managed to implement at the system level that all but two of our restaurants will be closed."

Several grocery chains will also be closed

All Penny and Lidl stores will be closed on December 24, Spar will also keep most of its own stores closed (except shopping centers), similar to the drugstore chain Rossmann. The home furnishing stores of JYSK and Diego will not open either. However, in the preceding days, shops typically wait for customers with longer opening hours.
