Almost every day we deal with the Hungarians of the Highlands, Transylvania, Subcarpathia and the South, but the Hungarians living in Austria are almost never discussed. Despite the welfare society there, there is reason to fear the preservation of their identity. The Hungarians who emigrated en masse at the turn of the millennium and since then have a large population, but without institutions and schools, they can only count on civil organizations to remain Hungarian. We asked Szilvia Mentsik, the president of the Round Table of Hungarian Organizations in Austria, about the topic.
