Péter Márki-Zay also wished a happy new year in Romanian, and behind the gesture lies the fact that the left-liberal mayor of Hódmezővásárhely learned basic Romanian in 2023.
All this was reported by the politician himself in his social media post posted on the last day of last year. The former joint prime ministerial candidate of the opposition parties in the mainland wrote that he started learning the Romanian language in January 2023 on the online language learning site Duolingo and completed the entire curriculum of 40 lessons on December 30.
According to his statement
on December 23, Aradon was able to follow the Romanian commemorations without an interpreter and, out of politeness, said a few Romanian sentences himself.
"I warmly recommend this great tool to everyone to improve their language skills and learn about neighboring languages and cultures, so that we can live together in peace and love in Europe, so that we can never again be incited against each other, and there will never be a war again!" - wrote Péter Márki-Zay.
According to the opposition politician's explanation, in addition to the above, he chose Romanian because he had already studied English, German, French, Spanish and Russian separately for several years. He added that if he chooses a new language in 2024, it will be Serbian.
"Vă doric un an nou fericit!" – the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely wished a happy new year in his post in Romanian.
