Women's rights organizations have expressed their shock and disappointment that the UN has named a transgender activist as the British "Women's Champion", who has also been involved in racist and homophobic scandals.

Seventeen women's rights groups have signed a letter to UN Women UK charity, expressing their shock and dismay at the choice of a transgender activist as Britain's women's champion, The Times reports

By the way, UN Women advertises itself as "The organization responsible for gender equality and the empowerment of women"

The person in question, the new British "women's" champion, is model, presenter and transgender activist Munroe Bergdorf.

the organizations that signed the letter did not only object to the fact that Munroe Bergdorf is a biological man.

Campaign group Fair Play For Women released a statement saying: "In December, the UN Women's Commission in the UK appointed a man who represents highly sexualized stereotypes of femininity as its ambassador for women." As they say,

"Bergdorf's gender appearance embodies an objectification that most women reject as a particularly humiliating example of offensive gender stereotypes".

They add: "UN Women thought it was important to demonstrate that, in its opinion, men can also become women. It is disappointing that the UK committee went so far as to choose a man to represent the women. Their credibility is in ruins".

The letter, written by the group and sixteen other groups, including Sex Matters, Transgender Trend and the Women's Rights Network, also highlights that

"The female population of the UK is over 33 million, yet we have all been ignored and one man has been chosen".

Human rights groups also point out, writes the Modernity news portal, that "Bergdorf's well-known activism is not woman-friendly." This person objected to women making references to their feminine bodies”. As they explain: "and many issues affecting women, such as female genital mutilation, child and forced marriage, reproductive rights, male violence against women and girls, rape as a war crime, pregnancy and maternity health care and many other issues are inextricably linked to our female biology.

How can this person be a champion of women if he does not consider these issues worthy of mention?”

The groups also point to Bergdorf's controversial past, noting that Bergdorf resigned from his position as LGBT+ adviser to the British Labor Party after

his previous homophobic and racist posts on social media have come to light.

These included saying that all white people are violent racists, saying things like "fuck you stupid, dirty, stinking niggers", but also made a number of homophobic comments, from "old fag" to "hairy barren lesbian".

By the way, in 2017, the cosmetics company L'Oréal terminated its contract with Bergdorf because of his racial comments.

Among other things, in a message to all white people, he said, “most of you do not realize or are unwilling to acknowledge that your existence, your privileges, and your success are all based on the blood and death of colored people. Your entire existence is permeated by racism.”

In their letter, the women's rights organizations also recall that Bergdorf was fired from her ambassador position by a children's charity because she "sent inappropriate messages that were contrary to protection standards."
