The Jobbik-Conservatives are calling for the immediate establishment of an investigative committee in order to clarify the details of the renovation of the Chain Bridge, said Brenner Koloman, who is running for the mayor of Budapest in the summer local government elections, at his press conference on Friday.
It cannot be that the Chain Bridge, the symbol of the unity of the capital and the nation, is surrounded by a kind of suspicion of corruption
- said the politician at the press conference held in front of the town hall, referring to media reports.
He also urged: the government should pay the capital the unpaid six billion forint part of the renovation costs regardless of how the people of Budapest ultimately decide whether cars can drive on the Chain Bridge or not.
Brenner Koloman promised that instead of the online survey initiated by the current mayor, which in his opinion was a "public consultation", a real consultation on the issue will be held with the citizens of Budapest in the framework of a local referendum.
The politician from Jobbik also urged that Mayor Gergely Karácsony "finally come up with a credible explanation regarding the donation boxes".
since the knowledge of what some opposition forces "financed" the year before last can influence the voters' decision.
