Viktor Orbán and Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics discussed yesterday with the presidents of the boards of trustees of the 21 foundations that maintain model-changing universities, Bertalan Havasi, the Prime Minister's press chief, informed MTI.

The mission of the model-changing universities is to act as the locomotives of Hungary to pull our country's economy forward and strengthen its competitiveness, the prime minister emphasized.

Viktor Orbán explained: not only a new management system, but a completely new Hungarian university system was created . The boards of trustees are the real owners of the universities, which have separated from the state. Instead of a single minister or secretary of state, twenty-one presidents of the board of trustees and more than a hundred members of the board of trustees will in the future be responsible for improving the educational and research performance and increasing the quality of the courses.

We expect universities not to be mediocre, but to train excellent, quality professionals; the state is ready to provide funding for this, based on the institutions' own development plans - explained Viktor Orbán.
