He received an astonishing video from a reader of hirado.hu: a man stripped naked in the Basilica of St. István in Budapest and then climbed the altar. According to newspaper reports, the incident happened early Monday afternoon.

In the recording sent to hirado.hu, a woman can be seen asking people to leave the church, and several people approach the naked man and call him to come down, but he does not move, but starts arguing with them.

They know that the incident happened on Monday afternoon, the young, foreign man tried to enter the Basilica in shorts. After this was not allowed, he pushed a member of staff and entered the church. At that time, they began to evacuate the building, so by the time the man stripped naked and climbed to the main altar, the Basilica was almost completely empty.

According to hirado.hu, both the ambulance and the police arrived at the scene, but the members of the ambulance service did not consider it necessary to treat the man, so the case was handed over to the police.

This is not the first such case

Last summer, a similar thing happened in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome: then a Brazilian man climbed up the main altar naked to protest the war in Ukraine.

The incident happened shortly before the closing of the Roman basilica. A surprised visitor managed to take a video of the scene with his phone, and then shared the recording on Telegram. Then the inspectors of the basilica immediately intervened, pulled the man off the altar and brought him to the gendarmerie for questioning. He was then handed over to the Italian police. It turned out that the man was suffering from severe depression.

Update:

In the meantime, the OMSZ's reply arrived.

They wrote: "No one had to be transported from the scene to the hospital, it is the responsibility of the authorities to clarify the circumstances."
