What is happening in Western Europe right now is "Europe's sobering up, the return to normality," said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy in Kossuth radio's Vasárnapi Újság program in connection with the farmers' protests.

According to István Nagy, Europe's agriculture and food self-sufficiency are currently in danger, because

European agriculture has never been so "imbued with green ideologies",

meanwhile, farmers do not receive market protection for agricultural products coming from third countries, specifically from Ukraine.

He stated: until the import of Ukrainian grain is limited by a common European solution, the Hungarian government will continue to close the borders to Ukrainian grain as a unilateral decision made under national authority.

István Nagy emphasized: they cannot allow Ukrainian grain to continue to be allowed into the European Union in unlimited quantities, because the interests of Eastern European and bordering countries cannot be ignored. He called it unworthy that

while poultry, eggs and sugar are expected to be removed from the list of unrestricted and duty-free products due to the French and German lobby, Eastern European countries will be left alone with the grain problem,

which of course cannot be left without a word.

He said that it has been possible to find partners in closing the borders for Ukrainian grain, as the V4 cooperation, supplemented with Romania and Bulgaria, has been successful so far. The minister expressed his joy that the Hungarian farmers will march to the Ukrainian-Hungarian border in Záhony next Friday and signal that they will not tolerate the fact that a European solution does not want to come to fruition, and

the European Union does not want to propose a common solution to the problems.

The Minister of Agriculture noted that while Western European governments "overpowered by ideologies" were introducing austerity measures to the detriment of farmers, the Hungarian government supported farmers to an unprecedented extent.

He called the increase in the level of national co-financing to 80 percent a historic decision, which means that HUF 2,900 billion can be made available to farmers in the period up to 2027.

Of this, only 600 billion is European Union support, and 2,300 billion is national resources.
