The West continues to fuel the war, and this path will either lead to the collapse of Ukraine or a world war.
Hungary and Russia have seen the conflict differently from the beginning, stated Balázs Orbán. The prime minister's political director responded to the question whether our country and Russia have the same opinion on the Russo-Ukraine war. As Vladimir Putin stated in his interview with Tucker Carlson: as soon as the West stops supplying Ukraine with weapons, the war will end in a few weeks.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán had a similar opinion earlier.
" It has been our position for years that a military solution cannot be found on the battlefield. We must return to diplomacy. This is what we are trying to convince our allies in Brussels and elsewhere. The Russians started this war, but the West continues to fuel it. We don't think this is a good idea, because it leads either to the collapse of the Ukrainian military or to an escalation leading to World War III. In short, the Hungarian and Russian positions differ for obvious reasons. But we also see the West as responsible - said Balázs Orbán in an interview with Austrian
The politician emphasized that Western leaders do not want to negotiate with Moscow, but this is a mistake.
„We need to restore communication channels, achieve a ceasefire, and then embark on a difficult and very long diplomatic mission. Finally, it should be possible to reach a long-term agreement between the United States, Europe and Russia, which will also affect Ukraine. I think this is the only way out. I don't know if this is in the interest of Russia and the United States, but it should definitely be in the interest of Europe, because this war only weakens us," he emphasized.
Exxpress reminds that shortly before the agreement on additional EU aid to Ukraine, the Financial Times reported on a leaked document according to which the EU blackmailed Hungary: if Budapest continued to block payments to Kiev, then harsh measures would have been taken against the Hungarian economy.
Brussels personalities immediately denied the report, but according to Balázs Orbán, they seriously wanted to blackmail Hungary.
Balázs Orbán emphasized that the problem was not with the funds provided to Ukraine. The problem was that they wanted to manage the EU support to Kyiv through the common budget. "We declared: we are ready to support Ukraine, but not by changing the budget. If so, then we have to agree on the terms in advance," he said.
" We won: now there is a control mechanism. So we get information about what happens to the money and we can talk about it every year. I think this is good for Austria, Hungary and all countries. We also achieved something else: the European Council made it clear that all member states must be treated fairly. With this, the council is actually sending a message to the parliament, which wants to constantly expose Hungary to an ideological blockade," stated the prime minister's political director .
In connection with migration, Balázs Orbán drew attention to the Hungarian system. "We need to introduce a new system that makes it impossible to enter the territory of the EU or the Schengen area without a permit. Migrants must apply for asylum outside the EU. If they receive it, they can enter the territory of the EU. This is what we are committed to. The system works in the same way in Hungary: you can apply for asylum in Belgrade. However, we do not allow anyone to cross our borders illegally. I think this is the only effective method," he said.
He emphasized that the member states must work to stop illegal migration, and the EU must also support them in this.
" Currently, some states do not do this, while others, like us, do, only they are not supported by Brussels, but constantly attacked - because of the legal system and border control. The EU should do the exact opposite and support member states like us in financial and legal matters with a new legal framework," added Balázs Orbán .
