The Southern City Gate development program, of which the Student City is a part, was initiated and financed by the government, for the benefit of Budapest - Balázs Fürjes, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office responsible for the development of Budapest and the capital agglomeration, announced yesterday in a video shared on his social media page .

The implementation of the Student City and the Southern City Gate is also underway, plans are being prepared in accordance with previous decisions, and some are already under construction. The Southern City Gate and Budapest Student City will therefore be realized - stated Balázs Fürjes.

The plan consists of three large parts, the Ferencváros Leisure and Sports Park, the public park in Csepel, and the Student City, where dormitories must be provided for a total of 8,000 university students in two phases. The development would make Nagyvásártelep the center of the Student City.

According to Balázs Fürjes, the 10,000-square-meter hall space of Nagyvásártelep will house university clubs, libraries, conference rooms, and sports facilities. The state secretary expressed his hope that the construction can start in two years.

The bottom line is that business and office developments were planned in the northern corner of the South City Gate development area, and the Chinese campus will take its place. And the Student Town, whose buildings will be around the Nagyvásárcsarnok and on the waterfront, will continue with an intact concept.

In the meantime, the opinion of István Ujhelyi, Member of the European Parliament from MSZP, about the Chinese university has come to light.

The socialist politician said that inviting the Fundan University to Hungary is not a new idea, since in 2011, as the vice president of the parliament, he invited the management of the university and they discussed it. He added that he was basically happy that the Chinese university chose Budapest as its base, but the socialist politician also noted that, in his opinion, Budapest should have a place for Fudan and CEU at the same time.

(Just note in parenthesis that CEU education still works in Budapest.)
