Pope Francis went to a central hospital in Rome for a check-up on Wednesday, after he continues to be ill with the flu, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Pope Francis was taken by a white Fiat 500 vehicle to the hospital, which operates on an island in the Tevere River.

In the morning, the head of the church participated in Wednesday's general audience, where his speech was read by one of his colleagues.

After the audience, he went from the Vatican to the hospital.
