With the current step, the basic salary of healthcare professionals will increase by more than four times compared to 2010, and will reach 37 percent of doctors' salaries on average.

As of March 1, the basic salary of healthcare workers will increase by an average of 20 percent, the State Secretary for Health of the Ministry of the Interior announced to journalists in Budapest on Friday.

Péter Takács said that despite the extraordinary expenses caused by the war, the government will continue to raise the wages of skilled workers as promised, to which

this year, the budget resource is HUF 200 billion.

With the current step, the basic salary of healthcare workers will increase by more than four times compared to 2010, he said, adding that their basic salary will reach 37 percent of doctors' salaries on average.

Péter Takács referred to the fact that in the previous years there had been a "historic scale" salary increase for doctors, the primary purpose of which was to reduce gratuities. As a result, the salary gap "opened up" between doctors and skilled workers, but the government leveled this in two steps - last July and this March - by increasing the basic salary for skilled workers.

The state secretary said that most of the previous allowances - for example, bedside allowance, specialist area, foreign language allowance - will be removed and integrated into the basic salary.

Since the variable salary of skilled workers is calculated from the basic salary, the amount of the variable salary will also increase, he explained.
