Four socialist politicians pocketed hundreds of millions of bribes.

Ferenc Baja, former Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, former Socialist Member of Parliament, was interrogated by the Central Investigative General Prosecutor's Office (KNYF) as a suspect for corruption, the General Prosecutor's Office announced. Based on their preliminary agreement, the man handed Ferenc Baja 30 million forints in cash in November 2019. The politician later asked the man for money with reference to the fact that he had successfully prevented the unfavorable amendment of the framework contract for the company, so the man paid an additional seven million forints, however Ferenc Baja made a monthly request for an additional 2-3 million forints he refused - emphasizes the prosecutor's statement.

On Friday, the investigative general prosecutor's office interrogated Ferenc Baja as a suspect for the crime of trading with influence as an accomplice. The politician did not admit to committing the crime and filed a complaint against the suspicion, read the KNYF statement.

Ferenc Baja is considered a true veteran of the MSZP. The currently 66-year-old politician was a socialist member of parliament between 1994 and 2014. During the Horn government, he was Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, and between 2002 and 2010 he worked as State Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, where he was responsible for various areas, including overseeing IT projects.
