In 2023, two-thirds of the domestic tourist traffic came from rural accommodations, where three-quarters of the guests came from the country. Domestic guests spent more than 19 million guest nights in rural accommodations last year.

According to the data of the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), the largest number of domestic tourists of all counties, 1 million 248 thousand - excluding the capital - came from Pest county last year. Most of them traveled to Siófok, Hajdúszoboszló and Eger.

The majority (3.1 million) of guest nights in 2023 were also spent by tourists from Pest county in the country.

The county of Győr-Moson-Sopron had the second largest number of domestic travelers, from where tourists mostly headed to Zalakaros, Balatonfüred and Siófok, as well as tourists from Komárom-Esztergom, which is on the third step of the podium.

Apart from Pest and Győr-Moson-Sopron, tourists from Hajdú-Bihar county traveled most often outside their own county, they stayed most often in Gyula, Eger and Miskolc. Most of the tourists from Somogy traveled to Zalakaros, Hévíz and Pécs, while the largest number of tourists in their own county sought relaxation last year.

On average, tourists from Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Tolna and Borsod rested for the longest time. Those who wanted to relax traveled the furthest from Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Bács-Kiskun and Baranya, who mostly aimed for Siófok.

Travelers from Győr-Moson-Sopron booked accommodation most frequently in 4-5 star hotels, mainly choosing hotels in Budapest, Zalakaros, Bük, Balatonfüred and Hévíz.

The campsites were the most popular among travelers from the counties of Komárom-Esztergom, who stayed mainly on the shores of Lake Balaton, such as Siófok, Balatonfüred, Alsóörs, Zamárdin, Révfülöp. Most guest houses were booked by tourists from Békés, primarily in Eger, Siófok, Szeged and Békésszentandras.

Most young people aged 19-24 traveled from the counties of Pest, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Hajdú-Bihar, mostly to Siófok, Nyíregyháza and Miskolc. The members of the over 65 generation mostly traveled from the counties of Pest and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg

– towards the same cities.

Last year, the oldest domestic tourist was 100 years old, who visited Zala from Győr-Moson-Sopron, where he spent 3 nights.
